Toronto Motorcycle Show December 2006

The Tail of the Dragon visited the Toronto Motorcycle Show for the first time in December 2007. It was great once we got through the snow storm with 60 mph crosswinds and traffic moving at 10 mph past London, Ontario. The show was one of the more interesting ones that we have attended and offered some new bikes that were of interest. We saw a few old friends and met thousands of new ones.

Some of the highlights:

Our booth was busy the entire show with people interested in the Dragon. We handed-out information on places to stay, places to eat, and other great roads in the area. Those who had been to the Dragon before got free stickers and other goodies. Many of the people asked about Wheeler who they had seen on the Speed Channel show Superbikes.

One of the special guests to visit our booth was Mark Nash of the Canadian Perigrine Foundation. This Great Horned Owl had been raised in captivity and had become quite a showman, raising his wings for photos.

This Piaggio MP3 drew a lot of attention with its two front wheels. We asked for a demonstration wondering how it would fare on the twisties of the Dragon. Here it is shown at a 40 degree lean angle with the fork of one wheel extended to compensate. It had no kickstand. When parking on unlevel ground you could lock the front wheels into a level bike position. Another unusual feature was the large trunk which extended all the way forward under the seat.

The Ducati 1098 Superbike also attracted a crowd. With 160 horsepower and 381 pounds total weight it should perform quite well.
We are familiar with Route 66 and Route 129, but this Arrowsmith T-shirt gave us another route to check-out. Where is this Route of All Evil?

We were really interested in checking-out the newly designed KLR 650s. We found not much had been done to the basics that we love. Major changes include suspension, brakes, updated dash, new fairing and rear end. It still looks to be the same great bike. These are the color schemes for 2008 which will be available in late spring.
