Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap with 318 curves in 11 miles: America’s number one motorcycle and sports car road.

Designated US 129, the road is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest with no intersecting roads or driveways to hamper your travel. It is considered “the destination” for thousands of motorcycle and sports car fans throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Can you brave it? It’s best to be cautious as the turns are tight, but the Tail of the Dragon is guaranteed to be the ride of your life.

The nearby Cherohala Skyway is quickly becoming a destination too, with its remote 60 miles of breathtaking scenic mountain highway. The area also has other incredible roads like the Moonshiner 28, Foothills Parkway, Smoky Mountain Loop, Devils Triangle, Blue Ridge Parkway, The Gambler NC209, Diamondback 226, Devil's Staircase, Six Gap North Georgia, The Snake US421 and many Great Forest Service Dual Sport and Jeep Roads.

Ironhorse!!

Stayed at Dragon City this summer and absolutely loved it. The attention to detail in the rooms was awesome, really adorable renovations! We only ate breakfast at the onsite restaurant, but the motel manager was super nice and kept an eye out for us if we needed dinner upon our return. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Someday working on it

Do you have to have a motorcycle?

The Diamondback is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near mile post 334, only 50 miles north of Asheville, and 44 miles south of Boone, North Carolina

The Diamondback is another great challenge to add to your tour list when you're planning for a Tail of the Dragon run. This 38 mile diamond shaped loop includes NC 226A, US 221, Toms Creek Road, NC 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway offers a fun run for motorcycles and sports cars ..... and getting here via the Blue Ridge Parkway is just an added bonus. One of the Tail of the Dragon's favorite rides!

A favorite of ours.

It is a fantastic ride as I ride it at least once a week. And there are many other great roads in the area as well.

Good ride

I found this run as good as the Dragon and even better in some places, as well as being a longer run. Also, hardly any traffic. The 226A and Devil’s Whip sections were a blast.

Nice

I like mine , tail to Miami from Daytona, 318 miles & 11 turns. 😎

The map looks great for looping. I missed this route when I did the Tail.

It’s a lot of fun!

I have rode it many times nice ride the back of the dragon is a nice ride also.

Looks like a winner to me!

Rode the diamond back on Thurs 9/7/23. Went down then back up While getting poured on. Then rode the tail of the dragon on that Friday. Both were cool rides. Ready to go back.

Totally worth it

I loved the tail of the dragon. I headed down there from NJ woth my r1 a few years ago. It was worth every minute of pouring rain I experienced on the way. Then i stayed in smokey mountain national park and was in total bliss. I cant wait to go back.

Loved that ride

We do a Smokies/TN-NC ride every year…this is gonna be on our list for next year! Thank you for posting!

Velma Smiley, Stacie Gibson - we rode part of this when you were down here!

Been there - did that - got the tee and wore out 'often' The Devil's Whip one of my favorite all time rides, the area is beautiful and several very nice off the beaten path places to stay and eat.
