Paving Update 6/1/24

Well that went faster than expected! The road surface is smooth as 1000 grit sandpaper and as grippy as 60 grit. The crews did a fantastic job and the final layers are complete from TN/NC state line all the way down to the lakes at Tabcat bridge. We are looking forward to many years of safe enjoyment and great photos. Hope to see you out there! (updated provided by killboy.com)

Just ran across this news item from the Washington (N.C.) Daily News dated Thursday July 6, 1939:

“There isn’t a grander, more beautiful drive in North Carolina than that from Topton through Robbinsville, along the edge of Lake Santeetlah, across Deal’s Gap and into Tennessee.”
