SUNDAY Graham County North Carolina has set-up roadblocks/checkpoints on US129, NC28, and the Cherohala Skyway near the county lines. Only Graham County residents are allowed to enter at these checkpoints.

THE DRAGON IS OPEN

There is no access to the Dragon from North Carolina. There is no problem coming from the Tennessee side.

UPDATE 3/24: The entire 11 mile section of the Dragon IS OPEN. Advisory signs have been placed at the intersection of US411 and US129 in Tennessee. This is to advise the public that on Friday, US129 will be blocked in North Carolina at the intersection of US129 and Hwy28. Only local traffic will be allowed pass this intersection. The entire 11 mile section of the Dragon IS OPEN. You will have to turn around at the road block if you are not a resident of Graham County. Killboy photographers will be on the Dragon taking photos. The Tail of the Dragon/Killboy store may be open during the weekend, unless we are mandated to close. We also understand that Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort will remain open. We will enforce social distancing.

ATTENTION: Tail of the Dragon Store will be closing Sunday afternoon March 22, 2020. Some counties in western North Carolina are shutting down all accommodations. Road closures will begin in the coming week. At this time, we do not have clarification regarding access to US129 at the North Carolina/Tennessee state line. The Cherohala Skyway will be closed in North Carolina. This will affect all non-residents.

If you have reservations for anywhere you need to check your destination for the latest information about closures.

As of now the Tail of the Dragon Store plans to be closed until conditions warrant. Our on-line store is open and all orders will be filled.

We urge everyone to stay calm and safe through these difficult times.

Had several days of below freezing temperatures, but now it appears the weather will be moderating for the next several weeks. We can still have a little snow here and there, but it won’t last long with daytime temps reaching into the 50s. There are a few places where the roads have been treated, but the Dragon is clean. Watch for icy roads on the higher elevations such as the Cherohala Skyway and US441 through the Smokies.

Our Tail of the Dragon T-shirt Shack is planning for a February 29 or March 6 opening contingent on the weather. Yes it is a leap year so enjoy the extra day.

December 2019 will go into the record books for some unusual weather, Christmas week saw temps rise into the high 60s and many motorcycles and sports cars took advantage of the conditions. Going into the New Year it looks like the trend will be cooling with snow expected by the 7th. We want to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.

Our Tail of the Dragon T-shirt Shack plans to reopen in early March dependent on the weather.

Looks like a big weekend coming up with Attack the Dragon and Classic Hondas in the area. Weather is absolute perfection after a long hot and dry spell. It is also the season for our Tail of the Dragon crew to surprise us with their awesome costumes. Michelle starts us off with her ringmaster outfit complete with whip. No telling what she and Carla will wear today. Come join the fun.

Nancy and I attended the grand opening of the Townsend Tennessee Wolfcreek Motorsports Rentals. Good crowd checking out their rental fleet. The Tail was wild with exotics, muscle cars, cruisers, and other assorted road fanatics.
